By-the-wind sailors are free-floating hydrozoans that live on the surface of the open ocean. They’re related to jellyfish and their scientific name is Velella velella. Sometimes, due to strong winds, they wash up on the shore by the thousands!
Sea hares are known to do the same when water temperatures rise.
